 History of fashion design refers specifically to the development of the purpose and intention behind garments, shoes, accessories, and their design and construction. The modern industry, based around firms or fashion house run by individual designers.

Fashion started when human began to wear clothes. These clothes were typically made from plants and animals skins. Most often, clothing was patterned, sewn and tailored in the household. The design of these clothes became increasing based on printed designs, especially from Paris, which were circulated around Europe and eagerly anticipated in the province.

The study of the history of clothing and textile traces the development, use, and availability of clothing and textile on human history. Clothing and textile reflect the material and technologies available in different civilization at different time

The wearing of clothing is exclusively a human characteristic and is  a feature of most human societies. Anthropologists believe that animal skins and vegetables were adapted into coverings as protection from cold, heat, and rain especially as human migrated to new climate.
